Interview @ BCG

Due to time constrain, I spent only 2 hours running through case studies on internet before going for interview.

Despite all my conversations with BCG were in french, I did not expect to have my interview in French as this was the only consultancy firm which told me they had employed non-french speakers. When the HR gal introduced the interviewer to me in a card board stating his profile, she told me it was better to speak to the interviewer in French.

During the 5 mins of wait, I was fervently running through my head all the vocab I could use to illustrate my life story. The calm and cool me, became more and more unsure of herself :(

When the principal came in, he quickly apologised for being late, offered me a drink which I rejected and I commenced my first interview in French. I literally used up all the french vocab I know to express myself and finally, it felt more like a French Oral test than anything!

Next, it came the case study. The principal specialises in Telecommunication and I had the most out of the world case on Revenue Analysis for a satellite company. Due to the unfamiliarity with the industry, I was not able to derive all the costs involved.

Each time, I prompted for tips ie what other costs Ive missed, I felt I have lost. It was as if someone gave you a riddle which you cant solve and you have to ask for hints. In order not to walk out defeated I kept telling myself, its ok, just keep asking him with a smile, maybe he will not notice. Finally I managed to solve the case after 30 mins. *wipe sweat

It was a strange feeling when I left, I was glad to have learnt how to launch a satellite into the orbit and the fixed and variable costs involved. However I realised I really dont want to be solving such business problems all the time.

I still want to stay in my dream-making industry... Sometimes you dont know what you want till you try. So, keep trying.
