Camera history

This is a 19th century studio camera displayed outside JCII camera museum. 

Such a pity that no photography was allowed in the museum. There were 5000 beautiful antique cameras. Another reason for going back to Tokyo is to visit Leica Gallery in Ginza.

The first camera in the world was displayed in the museum,  and JCII is the ONLY museum in Japan to possess it. It was issued on Aug 19th 1839, 172 yrs ago. Called the Giroux Daguerreotype Camera- what a mouthful! And actually manufactured by the french. Wonder why the french lost the legacy of camera making over the years.

Understanding the history of evolution of camera makes me appreciate my Nikon D90. I often complain how it is heavy but at the end of the day its always handy to have it.
