We were invited to a soiree of $3 beer and free food under the Tower. I was very excited as I've never visited an airport tower. Doesnt matter that it is a small tower, at least it is a real one! and in operation! Its also the one that answers to Et's radio calls when he is flying.
There was a projector screen show of aviation photos. This radio tower is operated by the Oz Airforce as this is a major airbase hence the tight security.
I wasnt sure if I could take photos in the control room, and did so inconspicuously. The tower was still operational and had 2 guys managing it. The gal behind was a visitor, like me.
The traffic was quiet, we watched 4 planes landed from the top. And learnt from the controllers how they used their computer screens to control the world from their tower.
The scary part was watching the party from the top of the tower. My legs were shaking...thinking that the grill may give way.
The iphone does not take as good photos as my previous sony ericsson phone unfortunately. But this photo is precious, the only one of us at the top of the tower in the control room. What a memorable experience!
