The civic park 10 mins walk from home was converted to a Festival Park filled with free music and food stalls every evening. We checked it out one day. Had pizza with beer while watching a group of toddlers doing their best at tearing down the musician's drum set.
Side track: I know! those muscles are really bulgy, Im thinking that's from the rock climbing sessions in Singapore.
There was an aboriginal art exhibition which displayed etchings on bark poles in the park.
We went through everyone of the art pieces and I found my favourite which encompasses all the Yirrkala stories: the 7 sisters; the animals in the sea; the stars in the sky and plants in the swamps. Plus it was in pink!
The finale of the Darwin Festival was a party at the waterfront on the last Sunday. Some of the performers during the festival came down to perform to the public for free. It was a gigantic party on the waterfront!
We took a mat and sat under a tree absorbed by the performances around us. We were in such luck to have caught the best show of the festival by the English Gents! for free!
No wonder Darwin Festival attracts tourists each year.
