Katherine Gorge Day1/2

Over the past 3 months, we hosted 3 groups of visitors and we just received our 4th group- Russian couple this week.

This time we managed to bring them on a camping trip to Katherine. Katherine gorge (Nitmiluk National Park) is a good 4h and 40min (350km) drive.

The pit stop was at Adelaide river inn. Don't we love the buffalo who acted in the Crocodile Dundee film!

From Nitmiluk Visitor Centre, we started a 8.4km hike along gorge number 1. The view was spectacular at the Baruwei lookout.

And it became even more breath-taking at the Windolf lookout. This was where we decided to hike all the way down for a swim at the river, and Et even swam to the sandy beach on the right of the picture.

Staring at the beach, there was some hesitation as fresh water crocs inhabit the gorge. There was a signage on the beach and the guys decided to swim over to check it out.

Written in caps were DO NOT ENTER, and just above it in tiny fonts which the guys could only read when they arrived at the beach: " Crocodile nesting area"

That was why they were swimming back frantically! hahaha

Just for reassurance, fresh water crocs are not as ferocious as the salties so it is still alright to swim with them if they are not too hungry.

By the time we got back to the camp site the sun had already set. There was a mad rush to pitch the tents and to prepare the bush dinner. It did not help having companion who prefer to be served, as it means double the work load and time taken.  Just an episode in life recognising that some people can be friends but you just won't want to ever work with them.

Mary's camping rule #1: Comradeship- you help each other. If I have to lower my expectations further due to your incapability to help, please at least take care of yourself ie carry your own luggage/drink.

If you cant even do that, better not come camping with me as I will send you back to your castle to live your royal lifestyle. Yes, Im SO severe!!!
